Changes in Rose

Rose in the Bath
Rose in the Bath

Rose has been changing a lot lately and I wanted to record it before I forget. She is 14 months now, and seems much more aware. She recognizes her name with high frequency and she knows the kids’ names. She still doesn’t say much other than uh-oh (when she drops something), but she is talking a lot more and every now and then will say the inflection of the appropriate word, like “hello” or “thank you.”

She has been eating like a beast lately. She wants to eat everything, except mango and olives. She loves meat, especially lunch meat. She will sit at the table, in her highchair, as long as the rest of the family and eats nearly all of the foods we eat.

She is still a very consistent sleeper, sleeping on the same schedule as the rest of the kids, with one or two naps during the day.

She is waving more, as well. She waves ‘bye’ and sometimes waves when someone arrives.

She loves to give high-fives.

Oftentimes at meals, when we are nearly done, she will put her hands behind her head and give a fake sigh. I then do the same and we go back and forth doing this a few times. It is fun, but leaves her hair a mess.

Mari says that’s everything!

Tired Girl!

After work today we all hit the pool with the Reagens. We knew that Rose was going to be tired, but we forgot to bring the Boba, which is normally how she gets to sleep. Today she was so tired that when we gave her her pacifier after nursing she just fell right to sleep. Way to go, Rose!

Rose’s First Birthday!

It is hard to believe that Rose is already one! What joy she has brought to our lives. At one, Rose is a fairly easy baby. She sleeps fairly consistently, waking for the day at 7 or 8, napping at 11 & 3 or just one nap at 1, and going to bed at night at around 9 or 9:30. She still nurses a few times during the night and about every 2 hours during the day.

She loves to eat, but does not eat a ton. She likes cheese, egg whites, cheerios, bananas, & strawberries, but she will try everything. If we are eating, she wants to be eating.

When she is not eating or sleeping, she likes to crawl around and get into things. This morning, when just she and I were awake, she crawled upstairs and started to climb in to Lucia’s bed while Lucia was still asleep – she loves to hang out with her siblings.

She enjoys music in brief spurts and doesn’t hesitate to dance with one arm when she hears music.

She communicates a little, saying “uh-oh” fairly consistently and signing “more” when she wants to eat. She can’t quite do the sign for more, but she claps, which is close enough.

Rose on a Ledge

Rose has been crawling well for a few months, but just lately she has been going vertical. She is good at going up stairs and earlier today she found her way onto the ledge in our living room.

Where’s Rose? or, What does Rose do during dinner? or, We got a dog!

Full disclosure: Susan was not home for dinner this evening. It was just me and the kids, eating some skyline late. Susan was at a Willowsong meeting.

Rose had been exploring the kitchen, as she usually does. She likes to pull all of the dishes out of the cabinet, or just cruise around and look for stuff to play with/eat. During our meal I had a moment of panic when all of a sudden I realized that I was not sure where Rose was.

Me: Where’s Rose? [Looking around in a panic.]
Mari: She’s under the table eating noodles.

Sure enough, she was. We try to limit what she eats, but she does not have any self-imposed limits. Also, we try to keep the floor clean, but we also have 5 kids, including a 3-year-old.

Elliot’s Bed Tent

Elliot got a bed tent for Christmas. He sleeps with it closed most every night. It turns out that Rose also loves the bed tent. Whenever we go into Elliot’s room she gets really excited and loves to sit and play.
