Lucia’s Dance Recital Dress Rehearsal

No videos are allowed during the recital, so we recorded Lucia’s dress rehearsal for her recital this weekend.

A stomach virus has been sweeping through the family for the past week. It has generally been OK, but Lucia couldn’t seem to shake it. We thought she was better yesterday, but she threw up again a few times in the evening and today she didn’t make it off the couch. By the afternoon we decided it was time to call the doctor, who recommended we take her to the emergency room. They were not happy with her behavior, either, and after giving her some nausea meds and a few drinks, decided we had better get her hooked up to an IV to increase her fluids.

Lucia Begins Dance

For Christmas, Mimi enrolled Lucia in dance classes! Lucia has always loved dancing and she is really enjoying participating in a formal class. Now that classes have started, she and Rose often have their own dance classes at home. Sometimes Lucia even let’s Rose be the teacher.

Friend’s Birthday Party

This afternoon Lucia go to go to a friend’s birthday party. Lucia is attending the HSAP homeschool classes offered by the school district and her friend also attends. Lucia talks about her a lot and was really excited for the party. I think she had fun.

The Pox is Upon Us!

Lucia and Rose have Chicken Pox! They were exposed a couple of weeks ago, and we noticed the first pox on Monday night. Tuesday was OK, but things have gone downhill since then. Lucia has a ton, and quite a few on her face. Rose has about half as many as Lucia, but also some in some uncomfortable places. They are doing better now and we hope to see some improvement over the weekend.

Lucia’s 6th Birthday!

Last night we celebrated Lucia’s 6th birthday. The Herrels were in town and we had a joint birthday party for Leah and Lucia. Leah’s birthday is the 14th and the two girls adore each other.

Lucia at 6 is a real angel. She can be a little mischievous at times and sometimes twists the truth, but overall she has a smile on her face and is happy to participate in the world. She is in kindergarten this year and she and Susan work on some light homeschooling in the afternoons. Lucia does go to the HSAP classes at Rex on Tuesdays. She was a little apprehensive for the first few weeks, but she is getting the hang of it now and enjoys seeing her friends.

Lucia loves to color and play various pretending games. She enjoys dancing, singing, and reading books with anyone who will read to her. She and Elliot get along well and often when he gets home from school the two of them go outside and jump on the trampoline.

She gets up around 7:30 each day and she and Rose share a bed and go to bed around nine. She is very patient with Rose, who still likes to snuggle more than Lucia does. Overall, she and Rose are best buds and do nearly everything together, mostly because Rose wants to do everything Lucia is doing.
